Sad News

Long-serving Shire Housing Association Board Member Edith Young has died suddenly.

Janet Allan the Chairperson of the Association commented: โ€œEveryone at Shire Housing is shocked and saddened to hear of Edithโ€™s sudden death. She was a very dedicated and loyal Board Member who made a large contribution to the transformation of the Association over recent years and to her community in Newmilns.โ€

Director Jim Munroย added: โ€œEdith worked tirelessly for the Association and her local community in her role as a Tenant Board Member. She also played a prominent role in the success of the East Ayrshire Care and Repair Service. Her death is big loss to the Association, and she will be sadly missed by everyone at Shire Housing Association.โ€

The Association sends our condolences to Edithโ€™s family.

Well Connected Communities

In 2016, people with mental ill health told us what it was like to live in rural areas. They said that they need a supportive community, and that itโ€™s really important for them to connect in โ€œlow-levelโ€, non-clinical ways that work for them, ideally close to where they live. This would enable them to connect with others pre-crisis.

We want to find out more about this, so we need your thoughts and ideas too. You will then be able to help us see how support can be designed and delivered in rural parts of Scotland.ย  This is Phase 1 of a project, and based on what we find out, we are hoping to move to a Phase 2, where some ideas can be tested in rural Scotland.

Please complete the online survey using this link https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/WYF3TXN

All your answers will be treated totally confidentially and cannot be traced back to you. We will not disclose any personal details. We will not give away your precise location. When we pull peopleโ€™s answers together, we will simply group the findings under similar ages, genders, approximate geographical area etc. so that we can see what people are suggesting as the main ideas and ways forward.

If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact RHalley@supportinmindscotland.org.uk.

Many thanks in advance for taking the time to answer these questions.

Survey Closing Date Friday the 2nd of March 2018.

Rent Consultation Thank You!

We would like to thank our tenants for taking the time to respond to the annual rent increase proposals and to let you know how your response helped our Board to decide which option to approve.

The Board met on 31st January 2018 to review the responses from tenants. The majority of tenants, 59.18% preferred Option 1, to increase rents by 2.5% with 24.48% preferring Option 2 โ€“ 3.0% and 16.25% either had no opinion or suggested no increase.

The Board reviewed all your comments and decided to approve the lower increase of 2.5% to both minimise the impact on tenants and deliver the service and home improvement expectations that tenants want.

We really value your contribution which helps influence and shape our decisions and would like to hear from you if you would be interested in becoming more involved with us.

Please contact Ann Black ย on 01290 421130 for an informal chat for further information on our Tenant Panel or become an Armchair Critic from the comfort of your home.
