Shire Secures ยฃ63,000 Community Recovery Fund Grant

Having already supported over 20 groups throughout the pandemic, Shire H.A are now working in partnership with 10 East Ayrshire community groups to further mitigate the impact of the Covid-19. Shire Housing Association has secured a further grant of ยฃ63,000 from the Scottish Governmentโ€™s Community Recovery Fund. The funding up to March 2022 will support projects promoting health and wellbeing, digital inclusion, and community food hubs and larders.

Lorne Campbell, the Associationโ€™s Chair commented: โ€œWith this Recovery Fund Grant we will be able to continue supporting local groups enhancing youth services, youth clubs, play schemes, family fun days, gym sessions and digital drop-in centres. The money will also support work with food hubs, supporting more than 3000 vulnerable residents as we recover from the pandemic.

Heather McEwan from Create a Smile Scotland (CASS) one of the organisationโ€™s benefitting from the new grant commented: โ€œThis new round of funding will allow us to work on getting our groups back together again! Weโ€™re going to be running a small social enterprise with some of our groups, which will allow them to get together at CASS Corner and give them something to look forward to each week. We will also be working with other community partners to host tea dances for individuals in our communities facing social isolation. The funding will also help fund wellbeing packs at Christmas for those who attend the CASS Christmas Day Dinner. This funding will help us to create smiles throughout our local communities!โ€

In its role as a community anchor the Association has previously secured ยฃ105,000 of Scottish Government grant funding working with community groups to mitigate the impact of pandemic in East Ayrshire.

Shire Holds First in Person Event

We were delighted to welcome back our Tenant Panel to our first in person event at the Dumfries Arms Hotel on 16th September 2021.ย  The socially distanced event went down a treat with panel members who were delighted to return to meeting each other and the Shire staff team in person again.

Over a breakfast roll, the panel were presented with an overview of our Business Plan and Assurance Statement and gave us their views on a few policies that were under review.ย  These events with our tenants are so important for us in addition to being really enjoyable as we share information in a casual and friendly way and are always happy to receive feedback.ย  We are always on the look out for more members and we donโ€™t look for lots of your time.ย  If you are interested in joining us, please contact Ann Black.

Our Virtual AGM

Our Annual General Meeting will take place on Wednesday 22nd September 2021 at 6pm via Microsoft Teams.

We are sorry that we will not have the opportunity to meet face to face with members this year.ย  We hope that you understand that we have decided to proceed in this way in order to safeguard public health.

We are also deeply sorry that tenants who are not members are unable to participate this year.

We hope that we will be able to meet both members and tenants in person at next yearโ€™s meeting.

If you are a member of the Association and are interested in joining the AGM, please contact Jade McLelland on 01290 421130 or at jmclelland@shirehousing.com.

The agenda will include the usual items such as the Chairโ€™s Report, the Auditorโ€™s Report and election of Board Members.

Weโ€™re also always looking for new members to help us do the right things to continue to protect the interests of our tenants. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Association please get in touch.

Office Arrangements from 16 August 2021

We recognise how flexible and accommodating everyone has been during the past 18 months and appreciate your ongoing understanding as we try to keep our staff and customers as safe as possible.

In line with Scottish Government guidance, we are going to operate a phased return of staff to the office.ย  This will mean that there are fewer staff physically in the office than pre Covid 19 times.

For this reason, we will also operate a phased re-opening of the office to our tenants, customers and the wider public.

You can still continue to contact us by phone 01290 421130 or email info@shirehousing.com or you can also request a home visit from one of our staff.

You can help us by continuing to pay your rent via direct debit, bank transfer, at a PayPoint or Post Office or by using the Allpay App or Website โ€“ details below.ย  We would like to continue with as few cash payments at the office as possible.ย  If you need more information, please get in touch.

From Monday 16 August, the office will be open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 8.45am and 1pm.ย  To keep everyone safe, we ask that only one person, or small household group is in the reception area at a time, so if you arrive and there is already someone there, please wait outside.ย  When you do come into the building, you must be wearing a face mask and sanitise your hands.ย  There will be no facility to use a private meeting room, so if you need to discuss something sensitive, please call us in advance.ย  We will keep this arrangement under review and let you know when we are ready to move to the next phase of re-opening.

We are all looking forward to getting back out and visiting people in our communities, but everyone should be responsible for keeping themselves and others as safe as possible.

Energy Redress Scheme supports tenants with fuel costs

Shireโ€™sย recent participationย inย the Energy Redress Schemeย has helpedย 73 of our tenantsย getย aย share ofย overย ยฃ2,000ย of fuel support fundingย from the Scotland Social Housing Fuel Support funding.ย

Dianeย Balfourย andย Leanne Morrisonย ofย Shireโ€™s Financial Inclusionย Teamย are delighted to have been able toย help tenants with someย much neededย financial support with their fuelย costs,ย especially with so many of us being at home more often due toย Covid restrictions.ย

The Scottish Social Housing Fuel Support fund is part of theย Energy Redress Schemeย that wasย launched in 2018.ย  Theย Energy Saving Trust has awarded over ยฃ26โ€ฏmillion to fund over 150โ€ฏcharities across England, Scotland and Wales. These grants have enabled charities to deliver projects that help energy consumers in vulnerable situations to save energy and money in their homes and to live warmer, more comfortable lives.ย ย ย

This scheme is now closed butย Shire continuesย to seek opportunitiesย like thisย to supportย our communities.ย ย We are here to help, so do get in touch if you need anyย financial help and support.ย
